SGISD PhD candidate Ashley Lazarre has accepted a job at Shipt as Diversity and Inclusion intern. Ashley will be working on special projects with a focus on program development, research evaluation, and storytelling as part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team at Shipt.

Shipt is a membership-based delivery service company headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama that delivers groceries, home products, and electronics to customers. They were recently acquired by Target Corporations.

Ashley is currently working on her doctoral dissertation on the role of Haitian women in the diaspora using social media as a tool to create new narratives after the 2010 earthquake. Her goal is to transition to the tech space where she can merge her background in education, public policy, and media.

“The pandemic inspired me to look deeper into the career environment that I would like to grow in,” Ashley shared, “Shipt will give me the opportunity to engage in hands on DEI projects where I can merge my passion for community engagement and storytelling while being my authentic self.”

Ms. Lazarre’s other research interests at SGISD include disaster response, storytelling, healing, vulnerability and resilience, and policy development.

Congratulations to Ashley for this outstanding achievement!
