In May, PhD candidate Kaia DeMatteo participated in the Swahili Colloquium at Bayreuth University in Germany. DeMatteo is completing her dissertation on host family perspectives and experiences in a Swahili language college homestay program in East Africa.

“I presented part of my dissertation research amongst a diverse group of scholars from East Africa and globally,” said DeMatteo. “I also had the unique opportunity to reconnect with former Swahili professors and mentors who have supported me throughout my graduate work and former faculty members whom I met in Tanzania.”

The Swahili Colloquium is an annual gathering that covers a broad spectrum of topics and disciplines incorporating Swahili.
